Hope

There are so many reasons why we do what we do.  We jump up early and race to our laptops, often before we’re even quite sure we’re awake. Some days, we keep right on running until it occurs to us that we’re feeling sleepy because it’s the middle of the night.  Time to log out and call it a day (and a night)! We do what we do because we love our work, our colleagues and our clients.  And that’s not the only reason.  

We also work hard because we want to do what we can to help our neighbors, some of whom need a little boost to bootstrap themselves out of a tough situation.  We have seen, firsthand, how hard our clients work; and we have often seen them out in the community, rolling up their sleeves to help their neighbors in need.  J. R. R. Tolkien writes “There is some good in this world, and it’s worth fighting for.” (The Two Towers).

This willingness to lend a hand is one of the things that makes our state one of the best places on earth to work, live, and raise children.  It’s worth fighting for.

We like to volunteer for and donate to Hopelink because they start where their clients are, work to get them stabilized, and support and mentor them until the are equipped to exit poverty. This diagram shows the reality in a way that makes sense for charity work of any kind: 

At Axelerate, we love the emphasis on hope.  It is the belief that things will work, even when there’s no evidence.  Hope helps us find calmness and peace when things go wrong. Hope can create a belief that we’ll get through it—it reminds us that we have overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles before and assures us that we can do it again.  Hope can generate faith in an outcome that seems impossible.
