Smart Grid Investment

The 5-second story: Snohomish PUD turned to Axelerate for strategic planning of their smart grid, winning a federal grant from the US Department of Energy.

The Business Challenge

When the Smart Grid Investment Grant Program was launched as part of the Recovery Act; Snohomish PUD knew they would be a strong contender for a grant. But while they had the brainpower to develop a smart grid implementation model, their ideas needed focusing.

The Solution

Auditing Snohomish PUD’s smart grid strengths and opportunities, our team defined clear and attainable project objectives to reduce consumption, increase energy efficiency, provide an adaptable system for customers’ needs, and prepare an infrastructure for green energy. After reviewing the proposal, the US Department of Energy awarded our client a $15.8 million grant, one of only two throughout Washington State.

Public Records Printing System

The 5-second story: The King County Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) asked Axelerate to design a programmatic replacement for the aging and inadequate King County Dept. of Judicial Administration’s (DJA) Public Print Queue (PPQ) application. DJA turned to Axelerate to provide a public printing and document management solutions to replace its aging and inadequate system.

The Solution

Axelerate delivered a scalable regional incident system based on Microsoft Technologies such as (Silverlight, C#, InfoPath and SQL Server)

Regional Incident Management System

The 5-second story:The King County Emergency Management Program specializes in disaster mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery to provide leadership and high-quality services that improve the safety of the public in King County.  KCOEM turned to Axelerate to architect, design, build and support a scalable RIMS enterprise system.

The Business Challenge

The Business Challenge: KCOEM turned to Axelerate to build them an Enterprise platform with multiple data feeds and service calls to/from other national and regional systems to efficiently manage regional incidents.

The Solution

Working with various King County jurisdictions, special purpose districts, non-governmental organizations, and others to architect, design and build RIMS.  Axelerate delivered a scalable regional incident system based on Microsoft Technologies such as (SharePoint, C#, InfoPath and SQL Server)

Meter Exception Management System

The 5-second story: Leveraging multiple technologies, this convenient web-based application consolidates processes and helps eliminate delays for our client.

The Business Challenge

A regional utility (PSE) with two million customers has inefficiencies accurately managing all meter exceptions. Their employees could only manage meter exceptions through an overcomplicated process—requiring logins for multiple systems, frequent emails, and Excel spreadsheets.

The Solution

After engaging in a process of analysis, Axelerate developed a Meter Exception Management System that solved the inefficiencies, and allowed for extensive reporting, automated management of data changes, and allowed for re-routing of information according to company policies and business logic.

Rapid Decommissioning of Legacy Equipment

The 5-second story: Without further need for hundreds of legacy servers, our client needed a solution for planning, scheduling and execution of an efficient transition.

The Business Challenge

Our client, a Redmond-based software company, required the expertise and talent of a Senior Program Manager to design and deliver a sound project for decommissioning hundreds of application servers.

The Solution

From the pre-planning phase, Axelerate Program Managers provided project setup, planning, scheduling, ongoing monitoring and control during all phases of the project. Steering the project towards its goal and eliminating unnecessary or wasteful activities, the PM achieved a 34% improvement in deliverable efficiency.

At the same time, the accelerated project timeline allowed for overall time utilization from all resources—including employees and the PM—to be reduced by 27% from forecasts. This immediately resulted in $250,000 of savings for the client. And looking to the future, additional savings will be actualized by redeploying the project’s methodologies on similar initiatives.
